On Tuesday evening, August 25th, The Arts Council of Marion County held its annual meeting at the Marion Opera House. (Story Below)
On Tuesday evening, August 25th, The Arts Council of Marion County held its annual meeting at the Marion Opera House. The meeting, open to all members of the Arts Council, was called to order by outgoing president Jane Wegner. Mrs. Wegner presented the highlights of the 2008-09 year. These events included a play by the Carolina Actors' Spotlight Theatre (CAST), a music scholarship for a local student, a Membership Appreciation Holiday Party, An Evening of Music, and more. Mrs. Wegner also made copies of the financial report available to those present.
Amy Mendes, the new Arts Council President, then introduced herself and the other new officers. They are Yvonne Edwards, Vice President; Pat Stedman, Treasurer, and John Whitman, Secretary. Mrs. Mendes discussed plans for the upcoming year, including another Evening of Music, and a Heritage Festival, to be organized in conjunction with a local group dedicated to that project. Mrs. Mendes also announced that guidelines to apply to the Arts Council for funding projects will be formalized and added to the web site in the upcoming months. This will enable the Board to evaluate proposals quickly and dispense awards appropriately.
